What You’ll Find Here

This blog covers the topics I get asked about most — practical information to help you understand your options and make good decisions about your photo collection.

Where to Start

Not sure where to begin? You’re not alone. Most people who find this blog are dealing with a collection that has grown faster than they’ve had time to manage. If that sounds familiar, start with the basics — a post on how to sort through printed photos or how to decide what to keep and what to let go. From there, the rest tends to fall into place.

If your collection is mostly digital, start with the posts on organizing photos across multiple devices. And if you have old VHS tapes or 8mm films sitting in storage, the video conversion posts will give you a clear picture of what’s still salvageable and what to do about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does photo organizing take? It depends on the size of your collection and what you want to do with it. A single box of printed photos might take a few hours. A decades-worth of mixed media — prints, digital files, and old video formats — can take significantly longer. I always assess what you have before giving you a realistic timeline.

Can you organize photos that are already digital? Yes. A lot of people have printed photos under control but thousands of digital files scattered across multiple devices with no clear system. Digital photo organizing is one of the most common services I provide, and it makes a bigger difference than most people expect.

What do I do with photos I don’t want to keep? That’s a personal decision, and I never pressure anyone to get rid of anything. Some people donate old photos to historical societies, others simply recycle them. I can help you think through what makes sense for your situation, but the decisions are always yours.

Do I need to bring my photos to you? No. I come to you. Whether you’re in Ozaukee, Washington, or Waukesha County, I work out of your home so your photos never have to travel anywhere.

Some projects are manageable on your own with the right information. Others are bigger than they look, and having someone handle it just makes more sense. If you read something here that makes you realize your collection needs more attention than a blog post can fix, I’d love to help. Reach out and we can talk through what you have and what makes the most sense for your situation.
